A married couple, traveling from California to New York, decided to rest at a luxurious hotel after nearly 11 hours on the road.
Exhausted, they planned to sleep for just four hours before continuing their journey.
When they woke up, the desk clerk handed them a bill of $350. The man was taken aback, arguing that the price was too high for a mere four-hour stay. The clerk explained that $350 was the standard rate, and when the man demanded to speak with the manager, he complied.
The manager listened to the complaint and tried to justify the cost by highlighting the hotel’s amenities: an Olympic-sized pool, a massive conference center, and world-class shows featuring top performers from New York, Hollywood, and Las Vegas.
“But we didn’t use any of those facilities or attend the shows,” the husband countered.
“Well, they are available, and you could have used them,” the manager replied.
After a lengthy and fruitless debate, the husband, out of options, agreed to pay. As he didn’t have his checkbook, he asked his wife to write the check. She handed over a check for $50.
The manager, surprised, asked, “But Madam, this check is for only $50.”
“That’s right,” she said calmly. “I charged you $300 for sleeping with me.”
The manager was bewildered. “But I didn’t sleep with you!”
“Well,” she replied with a grin, “I was here, and you could have.”
